The Toronto was a mining ship funded by the corporation Doimler-Dathasu Thompson at the cost of over one hundred twenty billion credits, or nearly three years' worth of their profits. An entire quarter of this cost went to the ship's cutting-edge artificial intelligence unit, Ned. The ship was designed to run autonomously and required only a crew of eighty despite its massive size.
