Luna is the first and, for millions of years, the only moon of planet Earth.  It was named after the Latin word for "moon". 

The date on which it was first visited by Earthlings, and which Earthling should be recognized for this honor, is a matter of some debate.  Though most credit Neal Armstrong for the achievement, many Eastern Europeans claim that Tintin made it there several years earlier.
